| Hi Folks, Any of you had any success running DOS in 5.0.7. My goal is to have DOS access under root. This worked fine under 5.0.6. as we have no choice, DOS access under root is a must for our work situation. - 5.0.7. Installed without a glitch (GUI not installed) - Maintenance Pack 1 installed without a glitch - Maintenance Upgrade 1 did not seem to install anything (does not appear in Software Manager) - Merge 5.3 installed without a glitch - dosinstall is bugged ( I hope When I try to dosinstall, using option 1 (ms-dos 6/7) then number of floppies (3) I get the following message: Unknown systemtype sco32 I tried to trace the origins of the "sco32" value within "dosinstall" script, but gave up. The dosinstall script has provisions for the "sco" value and not "sco32" value. I am at an impass. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Marc Champagne |

In 5.0.7 though, dosinstall reads /usr/lib/merge/Version and not /usr/merge/Version (as indicated in above TA), but then again this TA has no mention of 5.0.7 in it. Now to figure out why "The VM86 process died" when trying "dos" under root... more diging. Thanks Marc |

If it's MS-DOS 6.22, then you're probably running into the same problem I had last month. Bela suggested adding a line to the default config.mki file to add a dummy TSR program. See: http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...ws.prodigy.com Note that after running mkimg to create a new dos machine image, the first time you invoke DOS it may just hang; just kill it and try again. My settings are (admittedly rather large, but they work): SEMMAP 100 SEMMNI 100 SEMMNU 100 Relink, reboot and give it another shot. Also, if you're running this at the console, try: mkimg native vga which makes a dos vga image using your actual video card bios, instead of the generic video bios included with merge. Bob |

I Tried mkimg native vga at the console, all kinds of bios information and messages show up (I would consider this normal) but it never finishes, I had to use <DEL> to abort it. unless you tell me that this usually takes half an hour to finish Any idea here? I'm about to give up and revert to 5.0.6. I'm not at all impressed anymore with SCO. Installation procedures that don't work, TA searches that can't find known TA's. Grrrrr. Thanks for your help. What do you mean when you say you did a fresh install of 5.0.7 without a GUI? Does that mean that you chose the option for lightweight character configuration, or did you simply de-select all of the graphical packages during installation? Or did you simply disable scologin?
