Default Need some help with 'rlp' ?

SCO 5.0.5, with oss5.0.5a installed.

/etc/printcap contents:

laserjet:\
:lp=:rm=tonya:rp=laserjet:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/laserjet:

local (main) server is connected thru a Netgear FVS318 VPN router.
remote connects using Netgear VPN Client thru a Netopia router.

I have installed and am currently trying to use the 'lpd' spooler to print
to a remote PC over a VPN tunnel. I installed using 'mkdev rlp' and went
thru all of the configuration to setup the necessary printers. For a while,
it seemed to be working flawlessly, talking with a piece of software from
SDI. But as of late, I can't seem to get even a simple print job to flow
over to the remote. When I check the 'status' file in the
'/usr/spool/lpd/laserjet' directory, I see the following message:

'waiting for tonya to come up'.

I can ping the 'remote', and the remote can ping 'main' so I know the
tunnel is up and functional.

Is anyone familiar with this error and why it occurs? Is there a
supplement that needs to be applied? Or, is there a better way to handle
remote PC printing over a network, other than 'LPD' ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I've tried de-installing and
re-installing and sometimes (emphasis on sometimes), it will open it up and
let it run for a while, but eventually, it will fail again.

Thanks
Joel
