Hi,
Would samba on a new linux server able linux desktops to see windows
desktops shared directories and vice-versa ?
Main goal; replacing gradually Windows with Linux desktops.
Present Situation: a sco enterprise 5.0.7 server on a switch with
windows workstations
Planned: internet-router-Linux server-switch-OSR5,win desktops,linux
desktops

Yes, Samba can function as a client (mounting shares from Windows), or
a server (sharing to Windows). It can do far more than that though,
including working as a PDC, BDC, domain member, print server, and
relaying WINS data across subnets (so that windows clients can see
other domain members on another subnet).

Your other Linux desktops wouldn't have to run the Samba server to
mount Windows shares, BTW. The smbmount/smbclient commands without
smbd/nmbd running.

Thanks, we have decided to use Lindows as Linux desktops and everything
turned out just fine! Everything was GUI and user friendly! Microsoft is
on its way out here!
