telnet connection cannot drop after window hanged

My application is running on the sco 5.0.5. I find the telnet session cannot
be dropped after the window client hanged. I use the command
" netstat -p tcp " , it shows the status of connection is ESTABLISHED. I
find I cannot rely on the above command to check the connection status. Any
other method I can use to check the connection status or how to trigger the
connection status to CLOSE once the window client hanged.
