| I just found that my /var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/5.0.4Eb/usr/adm/syslog file has been missing with no reasons. I maybe because of that I have some errors in HDD. How do I check if the log daemon is running correctly? Thanks, Chalawal |

It's more likely the missing file is the 'result of' the HD errors. That file simply acts as a receptacle for vaious system messages. You can try re-creating it with - ' > syslog' from within it's home directory, then try re-booting. You must be logged in as root to do this. I would certainly make sure I have a good, verified backup of everything that's important before doing anything. If you have HDD errors, things can go from bad to worse, and you certainly want to be able to recover. Good luck. |

| Thanks, I will have to make a backup soon. It's got superblock and inode errors. The screen runs all the time with those messages.
