| I have a brand new obsd 3.6 and an old pentium-133 based machine with 96 MB memory and a 1.2 GB disk and CD. obsd cd is booted ok and asks a few questions about keyboard/language and then for the allowance to install, which is granted (of course). then after a short "hurray" it tests the disks and stops the shell, telling me it didn't find one! But if I don't boot from the CD but from the harddisk, a nice linux (2.6 kernal) comes up (alternatively some msdos), so there IS some disk. what I want to achieve is format the disk under obsd and install obsd there, to be used as a web-firewall-computer for 2 windows and 1 linux client. any idea what went wrong? thanks a lot, wolfgang (wtr) |

Not really, i'm missing some crucial information. What does your bios say about the disk ? Does it has some `sort` of harddisk controller card ? If so, wich brand/model/scsi/ide ? In case you have some sort of controller card wich isn't supported try the onboard IDE controller instead. (Changes are pretty big it has one if it's a pentium 133) Or when the controller IS supported but still doesn't work you might want to flash your BIOS firmware to the latest version (wich could be 1996 but hey, if it's newer ....) I had this once with a mylex controller. -- ] Bas Keur ] `Energizer Bunny arrested, charged with battery` |

It is an IDE Quantum drive and on it I had a windows and 2 linux partitions. I have no extra controller. The CD is in an external case connected to a TEKRAM395 controller and I can boot Linux and obsd from it. >If so, wich brand/model/scsi/ide ? > >In case you have some sort of controller card wich isn't >supported try the onboard IDE controller instead. >(Changes are pretty big it has one if it's a pentium 133) ?? only obsd cannot see it, msdos, win98 and linux can (suse9.2). I want to _replace_ these by obsd, but can't. Thanks, wolfgang teschner |

So can i from my firewire based laptop, however either redhat fedora 1,2 (3 can) ,suse 9 etc will boot from the CD/DVD to `then` tell me that it hasn't found any cdrom player doesn't seem to work. > It is an IDE Quantum drive and on it I had a windows and 2 linux > partitions. I whould suggest you go to your System BIOS when you restart your server & select the option "Load BIOS Defaults" Save the changes and reboot, don't ask just do it > ?? only obsd cannot see it, msdos, win98 and linux can (suse9.2). > I want to _replace_ these by obsd, but can't. | Hi, I had some similar problem on P90-Hardware with one of the previous releases, one of 3.4/3.5. It took really long to detect the HDD, several minutes, but then it started through. For my crap this has been fixed in 3.6, you could suck the old floppies to compare if they work better, but in the end it won't fix 3.6 Greets, Dorian |

I HAD to change the setup before I could test it, to allow a boot-from-cd, but that can't have something to do with it. Can the partitioning of the disk have something to do with the problem? I thought that regardless of partitions, I should be able to format the drive under a running obsd (I bought the CD-pack) and then installing on it. I have switched from the SCSI-CD-drive to an IDE one now (a DVD in fact), but that didn't change a thing (besides being faster than my very old CD). > >> ?? only obsd cannot see it, msdos, win98 and linux can (suse9.2). >> I want to _replace_ these by obsd, but can't. > >Please try the BIOS defaults, it can matter when using Obsd =] > Thanks, wolfgang teschner |

Not a second delay. Also, when I try to read the fstab, I cannot. The minibash seems to be too small for this task. Thanks, wolfgang >Greets, >Dorian |

Well unfortunately all I tried got me nowhere. I added a IDE CD - no change. I had even switched IDE cables (even when the originally assigned cable said "master 0") between CD and disk - nearly no change. In my first configuration, obsd said Boot from CD 9F .... disk: fd0, hd0+* cd0 ( what meaning is +* ? ) Further, it said fd0 at fdc0 drive 0 rd0: fixed, 3560 blocks root on rd0a rootdev = 0x1100 rrootdev = 0x2f00 rawdev = 0x 2f02 .... but later after "proceed?" yes "cool" again No disks found When I changed cables, it only found fd0, no hd0 anymore. Booted obsd from floppy - again no change. Thanks, wolfgang |
