It might. I'm generally paranoid and have a 2nd openbsd system around to build a snapshot release and make sure I can install (via snapshot) from scratch on new hardware. -- Chris Dukes Suspicion breeds confidance -- Brazil |

OK, I did attache a PATA, and will try to build current a.s.a. I read how it's done on OpenBSD. I will need hint on how to make the most of my P4 HTT and enable SMP? How do I enable sound on this? audio or man emu say enough for me . the /dev/audio seems unconfigured I still don't see the SATA disk, but am booted on the right machine only PATA This is my dmesg (any sugestions welcome): bash-3.00$ dmesg OpenBSD 3.6-current (GENERIC) #277: Sat Jan 15 13:34:22 MST 2005 deraadt@i386.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC cpu0: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz ("GenuineIntel" 686-class) 3.22 GHz cpu0: FPU,V86,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,P GE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,CFLUSH,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE 2,SS,HTT,TM,SBF,PNI,MWAIT,CNXT-ID real mem = 1073258496 (1048104K) avail mem = 973025280 (950220K) using 4278 buffers containing 53764096 bytes (52504K) of memory mainbus0 (root) bios0 at mainbus0: AT/286+(cf) BIOS, date 11/01/04, BIOS32 rev. 0 @ 0xfb4e0 apm0 at bios0: Power Management spec V1.2 apm0: AC on, battery charge unknown pcibios0 at bios0: rev 3.0 @ 0xf0000/0xde84 pcibios0: PCI IRQ Routing Table rev 1.0 @ 0xfdd60/256 (14 entries) pcibios0: PCI Exclusive IRQs: 5 9 10 11 pcibios0: no compatible PCI ICU found: ICU vendor 0x8086 product 0x2640 pcibios0: Warning, unable to fix up PCI interrupt routing pcibios0: PCI bus #4 is the last bus bios0: ROM list: 0xc0000/0x8000 0xc8000/0x8000! As memory serves, context switch on SMP on P4 is about 10 times as long as context switch on UP on P4. > How do I enable sound on this? > audio or man emu say enough for me . the /dev/audio seems unconfigured > I still don't see the SATA disk, but am booted on the right machine only > PATA This is my dmesg (any sugestions welcome): > bash-3.00$ dmesg And did you see anything in there that looked like an audio device? If you're seeking to use openbsd as your spiffy desktop to run your l33t mp3 player, you're on the wrong OS. It might actually be possible, but the OS won't wipe your bottom getting there. One of the Linux distros or FreeBSD might be bleeding edge enough to get you there with minimal pain. If I could remember the openbsd equivalent of lspci, I'd point you in the direction of usign that to determine what hardware is actually in your system then searching the openbsd sources. -- Chris Dukes Suspicion breeds confidance -- Brazil |

Translate that back into english please switch'? Do I look that bad? machine. Mostly Gentoo nowadays. I'm also aware that my tv-ou won't work, and I do not expect a superior to other os sound - i just want any sound, and as I see openbsd people do listen to music and even watch movies or soem windows guys are preparing the ports and packages just for the heck of it and theyr unusable? I'm not whining about my onboard sound card 'azalia' not working, nor about the missing 3D nvidia drivers. I'd rather stay with Gentoo, then switch to FreeBSD, but that's subject to change. The main reason I want to try to use OpenBSD as a desktop is that I am using OpenBSD on the gateway and sever and want to stick to as little os as I can, while being able to configure and run small networks for customers in the future giving them the best solutions based on Linux/*BSD/Windows. > If I could remember the openbsd equivalent of lspci, I'd point you > in the direction of usign that to determine what hardware is > actually in your system then searching the openbsd sources. my card should use "emu" AFAIK, only I can't find anything that could help me with sound. Just a little help needed |
