Default OpenBSD 4.1 gaim problems

I've ben having some isues with gaim, and I'm wondering if anyone else has
any suggestions.

I'm running OpenBSD 4.1 on an Ultra 5, which, of course, means I'm using
the sparc64 port.

Installing the gaim package went smoothly, but when I tried to run it, I
got this:

$gaim
D-Bus library appears to be incorrectly set up; failed to read machine
uuid: Failed to open "/etc/dbus-1/machine-id": Permission denied
See the manual page for dbus-uuidgen to correct this issue.
Continuing with a bogus made-up machine UUID, which may cause problems.
Bus error (core dumped)

I took a quick look at permissions in there:

drwxr-xr-x 23 root wheel 2560 May 22 04:26 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 May 18 21:14 .
-rw------- 1 root wheel 33 May 18 21:14 machine-id
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 May 18 21:10 system.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2275 May 18 21:10 system.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1041 May 18 21:10 session.conf

Okay, having read the error message, I cd'ed to the directory, issued a
chmod, and permission looked like this:

drwxr-xr-x 23 root wheel 2560 May 22 04:26 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 May 18 21:14 .
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 33 May 18 21:14 machine-id
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 May 18 21:10 system.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2275 May 18 21:10 system.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1041 May 18 21:10 session.conf

So I tried running gaim again..and got a bus error and a core dump.

I've looked around and have not found any information that helps me.

I'm hoping that there is some glaring, obvious thing that I have
overlooked. Does anyone know?
