My intention is to create a boot cdrom to perform the installation of OpenBSD 3.9 on an HP9000 712/60. mkisofs complains about the lif partition when I attempt to use that as the target of the El Torito boot segment -b (wrong size). Hmmm ... I also see that there is a cd39.iso file in the distro, and I burned that but the 712 doesn't like it enough to boot from it (It appears from vnconfig/mount to contain only kernel.rd) and so I'm wondering how one might go about burning a cd which will boot, and contain all the base partitions, along with the src and sys source files and ports ... From the information above, I guess I need to know the equivalent of the infile to the dd (/usr/mdec/cdboot), and how to convince mkisofs to use it as a boot partition? Thus far I have 2 coasters ... 8-{ Cheers, Rob. ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! >100,000 Newsgroups ---= East/West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |

Hmmm ... My mkhybrid command looks something like mkhybrid -A "blah" -P "blah" -p "blah" -V "blah" \ -o ${ISODIR}/file.iso path-to-dir It's the dd command that modifies the generated iso to add the lif partition (I think that's what it does). > I also see that there is a cd39.iso file in the distro, and I burned that > but the 712 doesn't like it enough to boot from it (It appears from > vnconfig/mount to contain only kernel.rd) and so I'm wondering how one > might go about burning a cd which will boot, and contain all the base > partitions, along with the src and sys source files and ports ... I boot from the kernel.rd then mount the CD which gives me access to the files on the cd. Hmmm, I haven't actualy booted from a CD in quite a while. I should get out one of my backups and see if what I'm telling you still works. // marc |

I've got a FreeBSD running dhcpd, so I just configured tftpd and stuck the LIF file in the /tftpboot directory, and away I go ... worked like a charm, but for the fact that the original 1G disk was too small for the x configuration. I stuffed in a 9G barracuda, and my little pizza box is booting from disk as I type this ... 8-). Thanks though for the information on the BootCD, I might still create one if I decide to put another 712 into operation ... Cheers, Rob. |

Rob, please email me -- I have a 712/80 myself and would like to discuss the gotchas you encountered. If you have a moment, hit me back. jcj |
