Default Route show cmd question

With 4.0, 'route -n show | more ' is printing in the route table
the lladdr addresses of my ethernet interfaces. Is this a new feature?
Why are these addresses being printed now and not before?

The "Mac" addresses?

It does this at least back to 3.4 -- the oldest OBSD system which
I have running at present.
