| Hi all, I just got a hold of an Apple G3 Beige MT 233 with 128M of ram. I would like to run the fastest window manager over X11 and the fastest web browser for cruising the Internet with this hardware configuration. I understand that both gnome and kde require lots of system resources so they may not be the best choice. Any others? and what about the fastest web browser under bsd? and finally would bumping up the ram to 384M make much or any difference in surfing the Internet? thanks, charles..... |

The reason is that everyone wants something different out of their Window manager. Look at reviews on the web and try out your top picks from the packages collection. Text web browsers are the fastest (links, lynx, w3m). Packages are easy to add and remove - try the available ones and select the one you like best. More memory is good. Especially for X. My surfing speed is constrained by my connection speed, more memory wouldn't help (56 kbps). |
