I've got two factory sealed, brand new LSI MegaRAID i4 cards sitting
here doing nothing. The copyright/mfg date on them is 2001 and above you
asked for late 90's. If testing on them would be useful, let me know and
I'll toss together a -current box.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide you with shell and serial
access this time since the company that allowed put boxes in their data
center went under.
