I think nsswitch is kind of a mess, too, with the different implementations you get from OS to OS, and different databases each requiring a different config file and syntax (winbind is configured in smb.conf, LDAP is configured in ldap.conf, etc). I think it's probably moot point, as neither PAM nor nsswitch is going away anytime soon. Maybe OpenBSD can stay away from this mess indefinitely. |
