Of course it's weird to use Monday as the first day of the week, but
to use the numbering starting from Sunday in some names of days, as in
Icelandic ~ripjudagur (Tuesday) and fimmtudagur (Thursday). Seems they
wanted to go away more from the old Heathen day names than Swedish or
English, using Sunday as the first day to count.

Now, of course, the Icelandic section of Wikipedia defines Monday as
the second day of the week:
