Default 2 NICs 1 IP Address

I have a p650 running AIX 5.2 with ML02. I was wondering if anyone
has ever heard of using 2 NICs with the same IP Address for the
purpose of 1. increasing bandwith and 2. failover capability. My
current cards information is below:
ent1 U0.1-P2-I6/E1 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-X Adapter
(14106902)

10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-X Adapter:
Part Number.................00P3056
FRU Number..................00P3056
EC Level....................H11635A
Manufacture ID..............YL1021
Network Address.............000255530A30
ROM Level.(alterable).......GOL001
Device Specific.(YL)........U0.1-P2-I6/E1

My boss informs me that he has heard about this and is wondering if we
can take advantage of this for AIX.

TIA

Take a look at "smitty etherchannel". Good writeup in the AIX 5L Differences
redbook found at www.redbooks.ibm.com.

There a few ways to do what you want.

Yes you can, try smitty etherchannel, but you also need a switch that
supports this, last I heard, it only Cisco that did.

Hello,

well, etherchannel will do, but maybe you will have a prob with ML2.
We run etherchannel with ML1 and it works fine (p690), but due migrating to
ML2
it doesn't work at all !

if it works with ML2 at your system, maybe you can post a "lsdev" of the
ethernet devices for me,
due we're still waiting for a responds from ibm !! *g

thanks & regards
peter
