| Hi, its me again. My -140 doesn´t boot anymore. She always stops at a firmware checkpoint (like FF1 / FF7) short after the first *pling-pling* where usually the graphics adapter is powered on. When I switch on the local console there are yellow stripes running accross the screen. What else can I say? -It worked all fine saturday. -the battery was replaced about half a year ago. -I didn´t reinsert the 3Com lan adapter. -Diagnostics won´t run, she doesn´t come that far. To me, this one sounds like a fryed graphics adapter, but since I have neiter a spare one nor a serial console, I can´t verify this one. Also, a broken adapter should not trigger a firmware error, right? Cu Jan -- Some days you´re the dog, some days you´re the hydrant. |

You could try unplugging the graphis card and seeing if the boot sequence gets further. Steve |

I just wanted to get around this one, since the 43P is (of course) the machine on bottom of the stack I´ll post which component caused the failure. >Steve Cu Jan -- Some days you´re the dog, some days you´re the hydrant. |

| Hi, I would suggest removing the Battery for deleting the NVRAM. regards Volker "Jan van Beers" <tnp@gmx.ch> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:i5gpsv0rbjdnij5nbel2bv6ee4lgn7p5l6@4ax.com... > steve@wakefieldrfc.freeserve.co.uk (Steve Nottingham) wrote: > [...] > >You might want to get the Service Guide for the 43P. Ok, took the whole thing apart. Put it together again. Works. I guess I do not have to understand. Will probably start to fail again when I put it back under my hardware stack. Cu Jan -- If all is not lost, where is it? |

Is there sufficent air circulation round the area of the AMD's ? I don't know why you are upset about things not working, it could be worse, you could be working with Windows :-) Hardware does fail from time to time and occasionaly a reseat does get things working again, deal with it :-) Steve |

Nah, its the only machine running, and "the stack" is next to my desk in my bedroom, so that is not an issue. I´organize another graphigs adapter and will then have a look. >-- Jason Cu Jan -- Some days you´re the dog, some days you´re the hydrant. |

I did work for half a day on tuesday, then failed again on wednesday, so I doubt it is a thermal problem (although I have four disks installed). >I don't know why you are upset about things not working, it could be >worse, you could be working with Windows :-) hrrr, hrrr, hrr, just like the discussion wether playing CDs backwards will reveal "satanic messages". Then someone pointed out that, even worse, playing a CD forward installed windows > Hardware does fail from >time to time and occasionaly a reseat does get things working again, >deal with it :-) Yes, but its not like broken -> replace, its more like "I am a little broken, hmmm tomorow is all fine, oh tuesdayCRASH, will be back on Saturday" >Steve Cu Jan -- ( ) The above .sig is equipped with state-of-the-art stealth technology. |
