| Hello, We're setting up a solution for a group of customers with 2 p520 servers and 1 DS4300 unit with 9 disks (at this stage). The meaning is to create two arrays on the DS4300. Both servers will be connected to the DS4300 unit and to both controllers (e.g. Controller 1 connected to server 1 and 2 and Controller 2 connected to server 1 and 2 for redundancy) through fiber optics. My question is now: First. what do I set up as configuration on both servers under AIX 5.2 so that server 1 connects/only sees array 1 and server 2 connects/only sees array 2. Second. Can this configuration be changed in an easy way in case one of the servers is unavailable? Any remarks/advice is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Eric |

| hello there, in this configuration you are going to need 4 * server connections on the ds4300. When you create your arrays and luns on the ds4300 you are going to map them to the mac addresses of the hba's on the servers. This term is LUN masking. A better scenario, and for scalability would be to connect the servers to fibre switches then connect the switches to the ds4300. You would then zone the switches, hba and port on the ds4300 ie, hba 0 --> port 0 on switch 1 --> controller a -- ----- lun0 hba 1 --> port 1 on switch 2 --> controller b -- You would then use rdac on aix that would create 1 dar (disk array router) and 2 dacs (disk array controller). This would present you lun0 with 2 paths HTH Steve |
