| I'm going to be setting up a P170 workstation for training. USers will be connecting via telnet and doing very basic Unix commands- I'm not too concerned about load. My concern is user licenses. Am I limited to 2 user licenses, or can I temporarily change that for 3 days for non-production use? COuld I temporarily transfer licenses from another box, or are they locked to that box? Any comments regarding using this P170 for this purpose would be appreciated. |

You can set the number of licensed users to any number you want (a reboot is required for the changes to take effect). The number of licensed users is not tied to a box (this is the way it has been since around 4.1.4, can't remember prior to that). You can change it as many times as you want, as long as you don't mind a reboot. Brandon |

As of AIX 4.2.1 (about mid-life, IIRC) IBM dropped the concept of selling licenses for AIX -- set any number you want. With AIX 5.3 (possibly ML 1) the default is no longer 2; it ships configured at 32,767. The current concept is that if you own an IBM RS6000 you own a license to use AIX for as many users as you want. New copies of AIX go for around $450 per CPU (and a $50 media charge for the CD set).
