| Sorry if this is a silly question, but... I have a 43P with a 4mm 4gb tape drive. I have some higher-density 4mm tapes available and would like to make use of them in this drive if possible. I know it's wasteful, but is it possible to force the machine to use these higher capacity tapes in this old 4gb drive? Could I somehow reinitialize the tapes as lower-density? -Steve in Phx. |

It should be, just put in the tape. If the tape doesn't spit out again, try to do a write to the tape. If you want to check the specs, do a lsdev -Cctape and lscfg -vl rmt0 (or whatever comes up). Then google for the output. Mine is an 8mm, but the results for 4mm should be similar. rmt0 Available 10-68-00-5,0 SCSI 8mm Tape Drive root@aix7:/home/root>lscfg -vl rmt0 DEVICE LOCATION DESCRIPTION rmt0 10-68-00-5,0 SCSI 8mm Tape Drive (20000 MB) Manufacturer................EXABYTE Machine Type and Model......IBM-20GB |
