| Hello, On an AIX server with 40GB RAM, and about 20GB paging space, 'topas' indicates that paging space is about 57% used. Memory is about 25% comp, 74% non-comp and 1% client. However, I added the RSS and SZ columns of 'ps aux'.'SZ' totals about 15GB, RSS about 6GB. I realize that there is an issue with values in 'ps' changing as the command runs, but I am not sure what 'ps aux' is missing, as it appears that RAM and paging are being used much more heavily than 'ps aux' indicates. Any ideas and suggestions how get a better handle on memory/swap use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, SAP BASIS Consultant |

This gets you nowhere, ps hides too much information, especially all kinds of "shared memory". There is much to know about the question "how much memory is my system using?". After you learned much about that question, you dont ask it anymore, you ask "how is my system using its memory". A good to place to start is http://publib16.boulder.ibm.com/doc_...d/memperf1.htm |
