| Folks, We've an old IBM F50 system running AIX 5.3. When we access the system via a locally attached console it freezes up after a while, with the only way to regain console access to restart. Also, commands like Ping and the majority of the SMIT menus cause the console to freeze also. The strange thing is that none of the same commands cause a problem if we telnet in to the box. Would anyone have any ideas or have seen this kind of situation previously? Thanks a million, Boysey |

What kind of cable are you using to connect the console. If it is not a "full handshaking" null modem cable and you have the "clocal" parameter set on the terminal characteristics this can happen if you are not using Xon/Xoff pacing. Check the tty settings using SMIT to make sure you are using Xon/Xoff pacing. -- Regards, Jerry M. |
