| I've been taking a look at F20 and FastT900 trying to compare. We're currently running a F20 and close to running out of space on our base. Is it worth it to get an expansion for the F20 instead of getting the FastT900? Anyone out there know which is better? Any performance data would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

| I have both a F20 and a FastT 600 with an 700EXP expansion. It all depends on what your trying to do. I've been warned not to mix FastT and ESS disk on the same FC adapter, it's been a long time since I did it. But, if you only have one system attached to it, and your not doing a lot of intense IO's, the FastT is great. We use it for our test systems. If you have multiple machines, you'll need to by the partitioning code to present luns to each machine like the ESS. The 900 is faster than the 600, and in some tests I've heard it can beat the ESS, but I've heard that it doesn't scale as well for size, and doesn't scale as well under a heavy IO load. But, we like it for our TSM, test systems, and are looking at another FastT for a document imaging system. steve@wakefieldrfc.freeserve.co.uk (Steve Nottingham) wrote in message news:<42862645.0408310102.4f68fdee@posting.google. com>... > sung.pak@gmail.com (Sung Pak) wrote in message news:<d6a40f8.0408301301.1e5905ad@posting.google.c om>... > > I've been taking a look at F20 and FastT900 trying to compare. > > We're currently running a F20 and close to running out of space on our > > base. > > Is it worth it to get an expansion for the F20 instead of getting the > > FastT900? > > Anyone out there know which is better? | Thanks! I wasn't aware we'd have to buy a partition code for the fastT. seems the sales rep forgot to mention that one. That would be an issue as we have multiple servers connected to the f20. Thanks again folks. patrick_a_vaughan@hotmail.com (Pat Vaughan) wrote in message news:<708cf574.0409021203.69e74d20@posting.google. com>... > I have both a F20 and a FastT 600 with an 700EXP expansion. | You wouldn't have to. Pat Vaughan was incorrect in telling you so. You do have to purchase that option with the FAStT 600 like they have, but it automatically comes activated on the 700 and 900. The 900 comes with 16 host partitions licensed and is upgradeable to 64. "Sung Pak" <sung.pak@gmail.com> wrote in message news:d6a40f8.0409030619.36845cf7@posting.google.co m... > Thanks! | You might want to also look at refurbished IBM certified expansion for your 2105-F20 - For whatyou'd pay for a new FastT900, you could fill an entire F20 with 72 GB 8-Packs. As a rule on ESS I get an insane discount when buying refurb. You may even consider purchasing a refurb model 800 ESS. Just my 2 cents. -Dan. sung.pak@gmail.com (Sung Pak) wrote in message news:<d6a40f8.0408301301.1e5905ad@posting.google.c om>... > I've been taking a look at F20 and FastT900 trying to compare. > We're currently running a F20 and close to running out of space on our > base. > Is it worth it to get an expansion for the F20 instead of getting the > FastT900? > Anyone out there know which is better?
