| Fellow AIX'ers: We've been tracking down a SCSI problem and I thought I would post to see if anyone has overcome this problem already. One of our machines is a B50 and we have externally attached an Exabyte E820 8mm tape drive (7208-222 equiv). We have now added an Exabyte VXA-1 tape drive to the SCSI chain. The problem we are having is the proper cabling and terminating of this configuration. Research shows that when we try to MIX these drives (SE & LVD) that for the LVD drive we need "high-byte-termination" . We have found a cable that will accomplish this for us as www.scsicablesource.com but we want to be sure that's what we need before purchasing it. Here's a test that we performed: When we connect the VXA-1 drive directly to the B50 and plug in an active terminator, the led on the terminator stays dark indicating no termination power present. If we take the cable out of the B50 and plug it into a Linux box with an Adaptec SCSI adapter, the terminator glows like it should. So, is there something different with the B50's connection that we are overlooking? Anyone familiar with or who might have experienced this problem before, PLEASE provide some insight? Thanks Bob |
