Trying to install AIX 5.2 on an F30. Not able to boot/install from
the CDROM. At startup, pressing 5 on an ascii term brings me to the
diags menu, 4 brings me to the SMS menus. I can change the bootlist
on the SMS menu, however, the system will not attempt to install from
the cd on startup. I have been able to boot from a mksysb tape, just
can't seem to see the CDROM. Any ideas?

AIX Version 5.2 is not supported on the F30 which is a PReP architecture
system.

Hi,

I have no experience with this machine. But could you change bootlist
and reboot the server ?

# bootlist -m normal cd0 hdisk0

AIX 5.2 only works on CHRP hardware.

Changing bootlist has been done, but to no avail. The 5.2 image
isn't recognized and therefore, will not be seen at startup. Earlier
releases can be seen and installed with out problems. Was hoping to
have been able to set up an F30 test box running 5.2, but that seems
to be impossible due to the hardware differences .

Hi

Have you checked that your F30 is capable of running 5.2? We are using
an F40 which I know does not run 5.2 (the F50 and up does).

To check:

bootinfo -p
result must be: chrp
