Default Filesets installed

I have gt AIX 4.3.2 & want transfer to 4.3.3. Before I must enter a
command lppchk -v. Next is output this command:
bash-2.04# lppchk -v
lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to
bring
the system to a consistent state:

bos.rte.aio 4.3.2.1 (usr: not installed, root:
COMMITTED)
bos.rte.lvm 4.3.2.2 (usr: not installed, root:
COMMITTED)
bos.rte.tty 4.3.2.2 (usr: not installed, root:
COMMITTED)
devices.pci.23100020.rte 4.3.2.2 (usr: not installed, root:
COMMITTED)

What must I do?

Default Re: Filesets installed

first download the filesets from:

http://www-912.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fcgui.jsp

and second re-install these using the "-F" flag of "installp" command

"man installp" can help you

and after that, re run "lppchk -v"

if no messages displayed, you can start the upgrade

I hope that's help you, regards

Hallo Michael,

again you ended up with filesets out of sync. The upgrade you did was
probably interrupted or failed completely. You can try to reinstall the
update with the force option, don't save replaced files, automatically
install prereqs and commit. Alternatively you could reinstall the base (!)
level of these filesets. In this case activate overwrite same or newer
version, don't save replaced files, automatically install requisite
software, commit and force. Then upgrade again.

Btw., use kornshell with AIX not bash.

HTH,
Andreas

Hello Andreas!
I'm try to reinstall bos.rte.aio fileset with next command
installp -aFXd /dev/cd0 bos.rte.aio
but received next message:
# installp -aFXd /var/cd0 bos.rte.aio
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Pre-installation Verification...
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Verifying selections...

Pre-installation Failure/Warning Summary
----------------------------------------
installp: After completion of pre-installation processing, there were
no installable base level filesets found on the installation media.
Note that use of the force install option (-F flag) will cause
installp to consider only base level filesets (fileset updates will
be ignored). No installation has occurred.

In CD-ROM - distrubutive disk of the AIX.

What must I do?

Hallo Michael,

was that the only fileset that was not found and did the others install? I
just checked with an AIX media CD 5765-C34 from 10/2000 there is a
"bos.rte.aio_4.3.3.0.bff" on CD 1. This would qualify as base level fileset.
To find out, what installp actually sees on your CD try an
# installp -ld /dev/cd0 |grep bos.rte
This should list installable filesets on the media. If you do not get any
output the problem is with your CD or with the path (packages are in
/usr/sys/inst.images). If you do get bos.rte filesets check whether the
fileset's fix level (fourth place of numbering) is zero. If that is the
case, check for an existing bos.rte.aio installation on your server and
uninstall it before trying to install it again from CD.

HTH,
Andreas

I can't uninstall bos.rte.aio, because this package depends other
packages. In this list - bos.rte. I can't uninstall bos.rte, because
this is base operating system.

Hallo Michael,

sure, you cannot uninstall bos.rte - but nobody asked you to either. Your
bos.rte.aio installation however cannot be in a committed state. It is very
likely applied with the additional information "broken". Uninstalling an
applied fileset means rejecting it. This is the 'r' option of installp, not
'u'. However, you need to give the level of the fileset as a parameter to
installp. E.g.:
# installp -r bos.rte.aio 4.3.2.0
Substitute the filesetlevel from you lslpp -h bos.rte.aio output.

Good luck,
Andreas

Hallo Michael,

I tried to reproduce the errors you encountered on a 4.3.3 ML11 system. Test
went like this: Updating critical fix bos.net.tcp.client from June 2003
failed if there was not enough space in the filesystem and after the
automtic cleanup failed also I got a fileset of action applied in the state
broken which could neither be rejected nor removed. I was not aware that
trying to lslpp -u would try to uninstall all prereqs also even though no
command to do so was entered (that's why you where lost with bos.rte.aio).
Trying to reject the update failed as lslpp did not see any software in
applied state. Trying to force an apply failed - probably for the same
reason. If this describes your problem correctly and your bos.rte.aio is an
update and not the base level fileset a possible way to get out of this
situation might be the following command (substitute fileset and level with
yours again):

# installp -acgNX -d /tmp bos.net.tcp.client 4.3.3.89 -f all

This should work for broken updates as long as the fileset itself is not
damaged. I got some error messages that could be ignored however. lppchk -v
did not find any inconsistencies afterwards.

HTH,
Andreas

Hello, Andreas!
Many thanks for attention to my problem. But it is obviously not
enough my knowledge and experience for struggle against arising
difficulties. I was solved and have reinstalled system. After
reinstallation all works normally. Once again many thanks for
attention.
