 Hardware Raid 1 on P615? Hello, I just got our new P 615 with a 5703 PCI-X SCSI Dual channel RIAD Controller. We ordered this SCSI card as we where told it has RAID 1 capabilities. I spent a lot of time checking the manuals, docs and browsing the web and so far the 5703 model only works with RAID 0, 5 or 10!!! Well, I really need to have a hardware RAID 1 on this server. Can anybody tell me if there is a way to use only raid 1 with this card, if so how to? Is another card model with RAID 1 capabilities. We are using AIX 5.2. Thanks for your help.      |

I was just told by IBM, RAID 1 can be tweaked on this model configuring a raid 10 on 2 disks only, but this isn`t supported by IBM... Even, we have 4 disks and we need 2 different mirrors and it is impossible to do 2 mirrors as the card would take the 4 disks if we configure a "false" RAID 10. Last word I was told by IBM there isn't any hardware RAID 1 SCSI capable card avaible on AIX, at least with the PCI-X cards... |

Well after intensive testing we where able to build 2 "false" RAID 10 with this card. It seems the disks are working as RAID 10 without stripping so RAID 1. At last I would suggest to use logical RAID 1 and for half the price of the 5703 SCSI card, add a second CPU to the configuration so the data treatment won't impact the processor. |
