Default HMC lockup on DVD Ram format

More frequently than not, when formatting a DVD on the HMC (v3.6 & 3.6), the
GUI freezes. Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?

Thanks

This sounds similar to APAR MB01174 for Power5 HMC...
(see http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/...f_MH00378.html)

This is for a Power5 HMC running v4.5.x level.

But your post mentions v3.6 so you have a Power4 HMC right?

There is also a nasty bug for Power4 HMCs at v3.3.5 level that can corrupt the
hard disk during a format of DVD media.. (fixed with IY72178).
But that affects only 7315-CR3 HMC devices, and requires a reinstallation afterwards.
So I assume that's not the problem you are encountering!

The Defects Fixed list for IY72178 (level 3.3.6) shows:
> DVD format fix
> Enable DMA operaton on HMC's DVD drive

Are you actually running the 3.3.6 level code, and still experience DVD-related hangs?
