| Hi All, I'm looking for advice on regards to a power4 HMC upgrade operation that we're planning. It's the first time we're upgrading since the initial implementation. We're currently at version 3.1.3. We need ot upgrade to thoses versions, in order to end up with version 3.3.7 - 3.2.6 - 3.3.5 and finally 3.3.7 We have four managed systems (p650) connected to that HMC and two of those have production partitions. All the profiles are static, we not moving resources from partitions during runtime. I'm looking at upgrading the HMC during working hours. My questions are: Does any of those upgrade operations can affect the managed systems ? Has anyone experience problems with the partitions/profiles during or after an upgrade ? Do you think that we could disconnect the serial cables to the managed system to prevent problem, or it would cause more problems ? Thanks in advance. JF Leblond jfleblond68 AT hotmail DOT com |

| hi did pretty much what you're intending to do a few months back. a few comments. there is zero imapct to the managed servers-of course if you required the hmc during the upgrade then you cant have it(power off/on a server for example) we lost our entire configuration between two of the upgrades, luckily id written down all the config and just re-entered it. problem was caused by not reading the doco properly:-) and following the steps exactly as documented. otehr than that it was very easy -and quick |

Did you either not save upgrade data or reboot more than once after saving upgrade data I got caught by this one .. if you did run "save upgrade data" then the data is still there in an unmounted partition .. you can hack it to get the hmc to re-read the data at reboot fyi ..
