| Hello, I'm not an IBM AIX sysadmin, but in my office there is an RS6000 43P model 150 (I don't know its ipaddress) that has a mouse port not working. When boot in CDE, I'm not able to open a terminal or smit (cannot move across windows or dashboard). I need to know how (and if) is possible to stop the boot sequence and go into text console. thanks in advance regards Davide |

One way: 1) Power down system, take out video card and unplug keyboard/mouse. then 2) Attach serial console cable to serial port and connect via a communication program (Hyperterminal, Zterm, minicom, kermit, etc). Another way: You might be able to not need to remove the video card. Unplug keyboard, do step #2, and power on machine, to see if you get something on the serial console asking you to press a key to select it as the console. -Dan |
