| Hi, This isn't a technical question, so pass if you like. How much a typical Senior Unix Admin make in Southern California? Say Orange County or LA down town, Santa Monica high tech? I'm hoping to get an idea from actual Unix admins. A Sr. Unix admin at Wall Street makes average 140K - 160K (base+bonus) depends on the firm you work for. When I say Sr. Unix admin, I mean MS/BS CS, 7+ years admin exp (cheap linux exp doesn't count), Classic Unix(shell tools awk, sed, regex, DNS, sendmail, jumpstart, AIX NIM, TCP/IP etc.) Solaris 6,7,8,9,10, E4500 - E10000, Veritas Everything (VxVM, VxFS, VCS), AIX (- 690 , 570 ) power 4, power 5 LPAR, basic linux, EMC SRDF, scripting, Perl. App support experience such as Oracle, Sybase, Weblogic, WebSphere, JBOSS, Blackstone; Security/Intrusion detection is plus. Other tools like tivoli tsm, tivoli monitoring, Enterprise Change Management, DR and project management experience... Does such Sr. Unix admin is needed in Southern CA? How much such Sr. Unix Admin typically make here? I'm under the impression that, in CA, most firms use cheap linux boxes (like google, yahoo/overture), they need either cheap SAs (60K-80K) do basic stuff or programmer-like SAs doing scripting... But most pay is 110K with everything. Not a lot of companies really need EMC SRDF/Veritas VCS/IBM LPAR/Sun 10000 high end products. Is that true? -thanks Thanks NYWalker |
