| I need to bring up a Power2 590 but without a monitor. I come from a Sun/Solaris environment. In the Sun world, all I need is to unplug the monitor and keyboard, and connect the ttya to either a Sun or PC, I will get the console. I am new to AIX, I tested a similar setup on a 43P-150 machine and was able to get until the following. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to AIX. boot image timestamp: 04:03 03/03 The current time and date: 01:27:58 09/16/2004 number of processors: 1 size of memory: 1024Mb boot device: /pci@80000000/scsi@10/sd@5:2 closing stdin and stdout... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I expect I will get similar result with the Power2 590, is it correct? But, how can I get pass the "closing stdin and stdout", I need to get a login prompt. Any help will be appreciated. thanks |

STFG for the pinout. 9600-8N1 with a vt100 emulation worked for me on all machines. If there is no Operating system installed, you won't see anyting on a 590 but three-digit-codes on the panel. 2.) Drop a AIX installation CD in the CD-ROM, put the keylock to service position and your 590 should boot from the CD and after a while you are prompted to press 1, 2 or 3 on your terminal to select the console. The number depends on which port your terminal is connected. If this prompt does not appear, go to step 1.) -- Uli (Reply to ulrich <dot> link <domain-delimiter> epost <dot> de) |

| Uli, thank you. But why would I got "closing stdin and stdout" in my test with 43P-150? Does it mean that I use an incorrect cable (I would assume I wouldn't see anything, but I did)? or that there was already OS installed that I need to do something in the OS level? I am going to give your suggestion a try on the 590. anna Uli Link <spamkuebel.csiph@linkitup.homeunix.com> wrote in message news:<414947f0$0$26103$9b4e6d93@newsread4.arcor-online.net>... > anna schrieb: > > > I need to bring up a Power2 590 but without a monitor.
