Default installing 5.1 on a 40p

Hi,

I got an old 40p that I would like to use to get in touch
with a more recent AIX. It now has 48MB and a bigger
harddisk. When I try to boot from the first 5.1 CD,
it begins to boot, but then just hangs displaying
"PowerPC" and nothing else on the screen.
I can however boot AIX 4.3.3 on this machine.
What could be the problem with 5.1? Does it need
more than 48MB RAM to boot? I don't want to use it
graphically. In the end it will probably sit in a
dark corner and I will only access it via ssh.

AIX 5.1 requires a minimum of 64MB RAM.

The machine on which you are installing must have enough memory:
a.. POWER-based systems must have a minimum of 64 MB of memory.

AIX 5.1 needs 64MB as minimum. And even with 128 MB it is no fun.
On this machine I would stay at 4.3.3.
