You should be able to use a "null modem" cable and use a terminal emulator like "hyperterm" or I use a secureCRT session set up for "serial" xon/xoff, baud 9600 over com1 from my laptop .. saying that, I have never done this on a p570 .. I will check it out tomorrow and post the results. Rgds Mark Taylor

i tried, but i still can not connect 570 server. by the way, this server is a brand new server, i even dont if it has a preload system. i am able to find anything about installing OS through ascII terminal without HMC or graphic card in p5 570 server. is it possible? Frank

When booting, the system usually makes some sort of beep or musical sound to indicate it is starting up. When this happens, to use the serial port, I believe that you need to hit a number to get it to boot from service mode. If I remember it right, the numbers were: 1 = Maintenance mode - to be able to define the console and change the bootlist 4 = Default Bootlist 5 = User-defined bootlist I can confirm that the S1 port on the newer pSeries works, and we used the IBM cable P/N 40H6328 and a DB25 null modem cable to an IBM 3151 or IBM 3153 dumb terminal at 19200 baud. IBM confirmed they upped the baud rate for the master console connection on the serial ports...the older models were all at 9600 baud. This should also be possible to a PC running an emulator that has IBM3151 or VT100 as its options. One more silly point - the machine's power light tells you what the system is doing: Slow blink is standby, fast blink is system dump, solid is powered on. It may be necessary at times to physically unplug the unit from the power supply to get it to shutdown and reboot to see the serial connection. Finally, when you boot the system, are there any LED codes that show up? HTH Steve

this may help ... http://groups.google.com/group/comp....c34a4fb37560c1 All my p570s are power up and on a hmc, seems I need to delete the hmc connection to get a terminal up on the serial port... Good luck Mark Taylor

thanks everybady about all repons firstly. i got connection to my new p5 server through my ascII terminal. the serial port i am using is S1, here i must thank steven_nospam's post. the terminal setting is 19200/N/8/1 which is mentioned by vlad. here is a point if somebody is trying to use terminal to connect p5 server. you should change the host/printer to EIA/AUX. and everytime you need restart the terminal after changing the speed or terminal's configuration. Thanks, frank

You could reboot your server if it is a big problem and you're this does'nt even come to boot Regards, |
