| We have an old SP frame where nodes are all AIX 4.3.3. We have just purchased a p570 and the contractor has configured it with 6 LPARS. Is there an easy way to get a mksysb from one of the nodes and restore it on an interrim box ( a 44p ) that will support AIX 4.3.3. Then we plan on upgrading to AIX 5.3 and restore that image to the corresponding LPAR. I'm new to this company and their experienced SP administrator has retired and moved back to Prague. |

A SP node contains a lot of SP software not needed in a p-series machine , runs 32 bit software a.s.o I would suggest: 0) Setup an AIX 5.3 Installation and Administration environment ( NIM, dsh ) 1) Get a list of applications runing on your SP 2) Balance the application to LPARS ( Maybe you need only 2 Lpars, maybe 8 ) 3) Install the software and test the environment 4) Shutoff the SP and move the p570 into production. This way you can test the new environment and you have a well defined environment. If you or your cowrker are not really secure with AIX then get somebody who should do the job. hth Hajo |
