Mirroring logical volumes

Is it possible to mirror a logical volume to another physical volume
not on the same volume group?
And another question: If i have only 1 disk in my volume group, and the
answer to the above question is "NO", what will help me if i do the
mirror on the same disk?

No.

It will do no good and just waste space.
