Default Move drives between p5 550 and p5 55A

Hello,

We have two p5 boxes: 9113-550 and 9133-55A.
Is it possible to move SCSI drives between this boxes ?

When I installed drive from 9133-55A into 9113-550 and run cfgmgr it
complains:

Method error (/etc/methods/cfgscdisk -l hdisk3 ):
0514-086 Cannot perform the requested function because the specified
device is not supported on this platform.

Drive is visible with lscfg command but is not visible with lspv.

What was on the drive? Was the volume group varyied off before
removal? Was it connected to a scsi raid adapter?

It was clean empty drive just from factory.
It wasn't connected to RAID adapter (AFAIK), but I'll try to reformat it
with 512 bytes sector. May be it helps ?

This drive shows as Defined, and I cant make it Available.

No luck. Drive still is not visible by AIX (5.3).

Make sure the firmware on the 9113 is current enough to pick up
support for the 146GB drive you are trying to install

We've already updated p5 550's firmware to the latest available version (240_299).
And SCSI adapter microcode also has been updated.
Drive still is visible as defined and could not be made available. Even
while booting from diagnostic CD and this is the only drive in the server.
This drive works fine in p5 55A adn p5 52A models.

We can plug into p5 550 any SCSI drive except IBM's. That's amazing.

We had the same problem (taking a drive from a 55A and trying to put
it into a 550). We eventually opened a call with IBM and were told
that the 55A drives are not supported on 550s (there's apparently a
hardware compatibility website somewhere that says just that).

Strangely, the 55A drive does work on our older B80 servers.

I had this problem with multi-port NICs as well -- the 9113 -550 is
apparrently off by itself as far as hardware compatability goes--
Its really hard to get a straight answer from their tech support
because the docmentation doesn't explicitly say it's incompatible;
it just fails to list certain feature codes ( on a very long list).
anyhow the older feature code 57XX PCI cards seem to work the new
18xx or 23xx cards shipped in the 560's and up do not work in the
550 either.
