Hello Group,

I've been looking at some of the online AIX 4.3 doc libraries but don't see
anything about installing, managing and use SSA with AIX

Looking to understand what SSA is, how pdisks differ from hdisks and/or what
their relationship is, etc. My knowledge stops about 3 years back with AIX 4.2
and SCSI hdisks. I've used RAID arrays on Compaq servers so I have a little
understanding about grouping physical drives on a Compaq Intel-based server
into arrays and some about the various levels of RAID like mirroring,
stripping, etc.

Any pointers to either sites with online manuals or sites with SSA information,
tips, guides, and stuff one doesn't find in IBM manuals, i.e., about using them
in the "real word", lol, would be appreciated.

This group is a great resource and I've found a few sites like www.rootvg.net
and Bull's freeware for AIX site, and IBM Boulder's online pubs. But any
searches there for SSA seem to turn up kernel and tuning stuff and not info
that would be useful to me as an introduction, understanding how it works and
the terminology.

Well, there is a monster missive at

and what looks to be a smaller one I hadn't noticed before at
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg245750.pdf

Just looking online now, I don't even see the 4.3 docs anymore, but
searching in the 5.1 tree got 39 hits, including the performance tuning
guide which refers you to monster redbook above.

If you bury down into the 'storage for UNIX servers', you might be
interested in a whole page of downloadable stuff at
