Default New to AIX

Hi All,
I am new to RS6000. A local 2nd hand shop is selling a 7012-380, 512MB
Ram, unknown harddrive.
I know this item is very old, but If I want to learn AIX, is this machine
any good? Can AIX 5 run on it?
Thanks
Inde AU

5.1 will work, 5.2 and later not.

The 7012-380 has the POWER 2 cpu, with only about 60 MHz. The integer
performance is roughly about a Pentium 100 or 120 MHz, the floating
point performance was exceptional great those days. Don't try to run
Mozilla on this box. Life's too short...

You can use generic (Ultra) Wide SCSI drives.

As an FYI - no IBM micro channel graphics cards are supported on it
either. Even 4.x had some issues with that.

How much are they asking for it?
I got an old 370 for $150 4 years ago if that tells you something.
