| I'm absolutely a fool when it comes to this SCSI and AIX, but here is what I've got; 1 Box (7025-F50), 3 Hard Drives (IBM 4.5G SCSI Part# 76H2697). In need of another hard drive, badly! I want to step into the double digits of Gig's this time around (18, 36, or whatever). >From what I can tell at a glance there appears to be an available slot for one more drive. What I'm looking for is some simple suggestions on makes/models, tips/tricks, whatever you can do to help me is greatly appreciated. |

Hallo Matt, what you need is well descibed in 7025-F50 Users Guide http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...ries/index.jsp For more drives you need additonal hardware. A SCSI backplane FC 6519, a SCSI cable FC 2144 and of course a SCSI Disk hot swap FC 3104 (18 GB for example) -- Friedrich Roesch Fachhochschule Mannheim, Hochschule fuer Technik und Gestaltung Rechenzentrum, Windeckstr. 110, 68163 Mannheim Tel.:+49 (0)621 2926232, Fax +49(0)621 2926420, f.roesch@fh-mannheim.de |

| Thanks for the help. After reviewing the user's guide, I've learned how to better describe my current situation. I've currently got one SCSI Backplane connecting 3 4.5Gb SCSI hard drives (With carriers, obviously), I've got what looks like three available slots on that back plane for additional drives. My questions is thus, assuming I purchase the appropriate carrier, I should be able to purchase any Ultra SCSI drive, install it, and partition it to its full capacity, should I want to? Also assuming I set the SCSI ID to auto, to avoid any unnecessary conflicts. |

| Thank you for your help, I ended up finding a store on ebay that is selling 9.1G drives w/carriers for ~$100 ea. Going to just buy three more and fill up the back plane and be done with it, I know I won't be needing to add another backplane anytime soon, as we're only now starting to hit that 13.5Gb limit provided by the 3 4.5G, an additional 27Gb should keep us sitting pretty for the forseable future. Thanks again, and have a good day. |
