| I just discovered, when I tried to add a new ESS volume to one of my servers, that I have NO vpaths and no dpo device! I used to have a dpo device and several vpaths. The server is running (seemingly) just fine, but this obviously needs to be fixed. I hope someone can help me. Here's what I know: I was running AIX 4.3.3 with the SDD driver. Specifically, I had the fileset ibmSdd_432.rte 1.3.1.3, if it matters. I upgraded this server to AIX 5.2.0.4. I tried to very carefully follow what documentation I could find on how to do this and make my ESS volumes still work. (But I didn't do this carefully enough, clearly.) It may not matter what exactly I did, but it was something like this: Unmount, vary off, etc., the ESS stuff. Install AIX 5.2. Install the devices.sdd.52.rte 1.5.1.0 fileset. Install the 1.5.1.3 update to this fileset. Removed the ibmSdd_432.rte fileset. (I think this is where things went in the crapper.) Rebooted and found that all my ESS volumes were mounted, and I was happy. HOWEVER, I may not have had the vpaths right there, and didn't notice it. I also found that several files from the SDD fileset are missing: lsvpcfg, lsvp, datapath, etc., and this is when I stumbled onto the fact that I couldn't make another vpath. I do see /usr/sbin/sddsrv running, however. I see error messages in my smit.log (that I missed before) during the install of the sdd.rte fileset, such as: sysck: 3001-036 WARNING: File /usr/sbin/lsvpcfg is also owned by fileset ibmSdd_432.rte. And errors on the Sdd.432 un-install, such as: ln: /usr/bin//datapath exists. Specify -f to remove. Yes, I should have noticed these long before now. So, can someone please tell me: Is this a serious problem that may kill me in the next day or two? Surely not. How do I repair whatever fileset damage is wrong? (Maybe something like: vary off everything, and then remove and reinstall the devices.sdd.52.rte fileset?) How do I get my vpaths and dpo back again? |
