Default p520 boot prob's

we found this old p520 in storage and are trying to bring it up & put
it on the network... for whatever reason, there is no documentation on
this system, and the cd drive does not appear to be working (no power
leds, no response from button, etc) so booting to AIX media is not an
option at this moment, but worse than that, when consoling in, it
looks to be booting to the SMS password prompt... asking for a USERID
& password... tried the defaults of "admin/admin" & "general/general",
but didn't accept them.
--so--
next step was taking the battery out of the Service Processor. (yes,
for more than 5 minutes... more like 30).. which, in my previous
experience, worked to reset the passwd to default.... this, however,
is NOT working... its still saying that admin/admin, etc don't work.
and BTW... we've tried all the other default passwd combos like
abc123, passw0rd, everything we could think of...
--so--
anybody got ANY ideas what could be up with this machine???

thanks alot in advance!
-P

You need to reset toggle jumpers on the service processor.

To reset the jumpers, move both service processor toggle switches from
their current positions, to the opposite positions.

Thanks man!
I'll definitely try that, and get back to you with the results!

funny, i've achieved 4 AIX/pSeries certifications so far, from IBM,
all around administration & support, and at no point, in any of the
redbooks or documentation that i read in preparation for that, did i
find anything about these toggle switches, but i did hear that from a
guy at AVNet a while back... just completely forgot!

Thanks a lot for your help!!!

okay...
i tried resetting the toggle switch, and... NOTHING
lets see... i did the following:
1)removed SP and moved to two toggleswitches (the only two i could
find, very tiny and on the top R-hand side) to the opposite direction,
put the SP back, rebooted, same bull$hit... telling me bad USERID/
PASSWD combo
2) removed SP again, moved toggle switches back to original position,
put SP back, rebooted... same bull$hit.. no default user/passwd combo
is working

so, at this point, i've removed the battery for several hours, reset
the toggle switches, and NOTHING is working... WTF?!?!?!

btw... the docs you linked to did NOT describe the toggle-switch reset
stuff in any detail... one of them didnt even contain the word
"toggle", the other gave only the vaguest instructions, telling you
only to do it, not HOW to do it.

what gives?!!??!

why is IBM hardware always such an INCREDIBLE pain in the ASS?!?!?
i hate to say this, 'cause i work for an IBM BP, but IBM stuff
suuucks.. it just never seems to work right the first time.... ever.
wish everybody would just use Sun.

well... any ideas on what to do next?
thanks for your help.
