| I have an interview in 1 day time for an AIX adminstrator. My Company will give me full training but I have to Blag the interview first and show i have an idea what AIX is. I know AIX is an intergrated OS for pseries systems but what is 'pseries systems' and how would you describe ( if asked in an interview) what AIX is??? |

Do everyone involved a favor and cancel the interview. |

I suppose you came into the world with the full AIX expertise ! Everyone has to start somewhere,I have read enough about it from different sources and having a small amount of UNIX experiance should get me through the interview just thought that a place full of experianced users/administrators/developers might be able to give me the leading edge over any competitors. I dont know what pseries is as I have never had to work on pseries servers or systems (cant afford them at home) and thers not much about them on IBM's web site. |

IBM has one of the best websites out there, period. goto ibm.com find the seach box type in "pseries" the first link will tell you what pseries is. |

| Here's a free piece of advice (take it or ignore it, I don't care): DON'T try to "snow" the interviewer. Tell him/her straight up that you have no practical AIX experience, but you have experience with X flavor of Unix, and talk about what you know. If you have experience with one or more Linux distros, be sure to mention that, as there are PowerPC builds of Linux, and some shops run both AIX and Linux. Of course, if the job opening says specifically that "n" months or years of AIX experience are a prerequisite, then you should not be going to the interview unless the hiring firm knows *in advance* that you don't have the experience. If the interviewer is going to test your AIX experience level, they'll throw an AIX-specific problem in your lap and ask you how you would try to solve it. A good interviewer will spot an "AIX phony" in just a few minutes, and you'll be giving your company a "black eye" as well as making a fool of yourself. There is no "magic handshake" that anyone here could give you that would give you a "leg up" on another candidate who has actual AIX administration experience. In closing, I'll give you one more free "tip": "pSeries" is a brand, a marketing term. It has equal meaning with "zSeries" (IBM mainframes) and "iSeries" (The Line Who Used To Be Called "AS/400"). I know only to well that I wont be able to blag what I know about AIX but I do want to show that I have been trying to gain some insite into the job, Cheers |

Obvious statement, but I'm not the one trying to fake my way through an interview. |

It's more than a "brand" it's an entire family of machines, the modern version of the RS/6000s. They run AIX, some linux. |
