Default Power 604e 266 Mhz advantages over Pentium 500 MHz

Hello,

I'm just starting to learn AIX on an old RS/6000 machine (43p-140)
with a 604e cpu. What sort of tasks is best suited for this cpu? For
example unpacking an archive takes three times longer than on Linux
with a Pentium 500mhz. I thought because of RISC architecture a 266
MHz cpu should perform better than higher clock speed Intel pentium.
If so, what application or benchmark test will show the advantage of
ppc? As you can see I'm quite clueless. I would appreciate your
input. Regards. uncle ziba

Maybe you want to check out
http://www.spec.org/cgi-bin/osgresults?conf=cpu95 and search for your
systems. There you'll find Benchmarks which you can use to compare the
performance.

Best regards,
Andreas.

IIRC a 43P-140 usually runs @ 166 or 200 MHz, which would explain the difference
better.
