Default PVNOTFND error when varyonvg rootvg is executed !!!

Hi,
Below is the summary of the problem !!!

We have "mksysb" image of the root volume of a different machine on
tape. I have restored the entire image onto my rootvg. But, after doing
a restore it is not able to make the rootvg (hdisk0) active. if i run
the command "varyonvg rootvg" ( to activate the rootvg), the error i am
getting is PVNOTFND. This is because of the change in the device config
file with the hardware location of the machine, from which the backup
was taken. the location of the hardware in our machine is different
from theirs.

Is there any means of modifying the device config file
externally ??? This is really urgent as we are nearing the deadline.
Please we need some help !!

Thanks in advance !!

vishy.
