| I have a 43p-260 and the system firmware loaded is called SPX03021. I beleive this is the latest version, but according to IBM information this firmware is for a system called 7043-260. My question therefore relates to what the difference is between the 7043-260 and 43p-260 - are they the same systems ? To make matters more confusing, when I purchased the system (second hand) the documentation referred to 9112-265 which again looks like a different system. Can somebody explain the difference between these systems so that I can use the appropriate references in future ? Thanks, Tim. |

The 9112-265 is fairly new system, designed as a follow on from the 7044-270. The 270 looks very similar to your 260. I havn't been lucky enough to have a play with a 265 yet, but reading up on it, it sounds very different to the 260/270. The manuals you should of received with the 260 are: SA38-0555 7043 Model 260 Hardware Setup SA38-0553 7043 Model 260 User's Guide SA23-2690 Customer Support Information (U.S.A. customers only) SA23-2652 System Unit Safety Information SA38-0538 PCI Adapter Placement Reference Guide |

So, the only thing that confuses me is that there is a separate firmware image for the 7043-260 and the 43p-260 and they have different names. If they are the same system, why have two separate firmware downloads on IBM web site ? Tim. |

If > they are the same system, why have two separate firmware downloads on IBM > web site ? On the IBM microcode web site for pSeries at: http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/.../download.html For the 7043-260 system, it has two versions listed: 05/12/2003 Sys Version SPX03021 SvP Version px020627 That's because the 260 system actually has two processors in the system. One is your normal CPU(s). That's what the Sys version is for. It also has a small and stripped down CPU that monitors the system and allows you to do things with it even when the system is "down". This is the service processor. Both requires its own microcode code. Now, when you apply the firmware on a 260, it will update both. With that said... next thing to think about: You have a choice of an AIX format firmware file if the AIX system is already up and usable. If the AIX system is down, then you would download the DOS format firmware file and run a program on a DOS/Windows machine that would put the firmware file on a floppy disk that you can then use to update the AIX system's firmware. I do not see any mention of a 43P-260 on the web site. If someone says 43P-260, that is just an unofficial term for what IBM calls the 7043-260. -Dan |

Hmmm.. are you looking in the same place as I: https://techsupport.services.ibm.com.../download.html I can only see one set of microcode updates for the 7043-260. The '43p' is name is seen stamped on the model 140, 150, 240, 260 and some more I think. But a 7043-260 is a 7043-260, with43p on it or not. If I am missing something here, please someone tell me. |

| Dan, I am sure I saw a reference to 43p-260 on this firmware download site, but I must have been mistaken. In fact, I have checked again and I found the URL reference which confused me. Please see http://publib16.boulder.ibm.com/pser...e/hardware.htm where you will find two separate links, one for 7043 Model 260 and one for 7043 43p Series. It is clear to me now that the "43p series" link does not refer to my system but previously I thought it did. Anyway, I am now clear on the differences. Thankyou again for your help. Cheers, TIm. | Hi, Yes. It looks like I made a mistake about the link because I had previously been confused by a link on documentation site. Thanks, Tim.
