Why does the DBA have access to root ? :-)

> Any way to recreate it?

/dev entries are recriated on reboot (with normal root permissions).

Doing AIX support was the most monty-pythonesque
activity available at the time.
Eagerly awaiting my thin chocolat mint.

I've never heard of this, sounds interesting. What if /dev is completely
missing?

My thougts exactly! Reminds me of a job I left where not only the DBAs,
but the App developers/admins ALSO had root permission (these guys used
to ask me how to login in via a telnet session!)...the "DBAs" were the
worst - they couldn't get it through their "NT" (long story; scary and
anger inducing memories) oriented brains that AIX/UNIX is a MULTI user
platform and that I could make MOST of their problems go away IF they
would only allow me to do the job I was hired for...in their minds,
EVERYTHING should run as root because there WAS NO OTHER way!....

.....shuddddrrrrrrr

Paul
p.s. I would have told this DBA, you know enough to have root
permission...you broke it, YOU fix it (WRT above situation - I did that
a couple of times)!!
