Default Risc system/6000 530h - serial console

Hello,
i own a 530h model and i would like to connect a VT420 ( real one yes !
) on the serial line.

I'm searching for system manual to find information about the S1 serial
output which doesn't look like a DB9/DB25 classical serial connector.

Does anybody know where i can find such information ?
- the first solution is to find the cable, and the second one to make
it...

An other problem is : is it nessary to make some system tunning (
switch ) and/or aix tunning or is it as simple as connecting a terminal
on a sun ( just plug in the serial line ) ?

Thanks for answering.
Ludovic.

It is an AMP 10 pin MOD-U connector. These were used on the first
IBM RISC System called the RT or RISC Technology. I have and adapter
that is about 30 mm in length that converts this connector to a DB25.
Available in Northeast Ohio, USA for 25 USD or will ship to other
parts of the world.

Note that you won't be able to run the latest AIX version on a
Microchannel machine.

You would be better off getting a 170 off eBay. Much smaller and more
powerful than the 530H. The 150's are great but won't support 64bit
or AIX5.4 when it comes out.

Interesting! Where did you get that piece of information from?

The announcement letter for AIX 5.3 (from July 2004):

http://www.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca...NUS204-155.PDF
says this:
Statement of Direction
Withdrawal of support for AIX 32-bit kernel in AIX 5L V5.4
AIX 5L V5.3 is the last release of AIX that will support
the 32-bit kernel. Future releases of AIX, beginning with
AIX 5L V5.4, which is scheduled for availability in fourth
quarter 2006, will only support the 64-bit kernel. The
AIX 5L V5.4 64-bit kernel will continue to support 32-bit
applications, but will not support 32-bit kernel extensions
or device drivers.
The 'fourth quarter 2006' part is not correct, but the part
about 'only support the 64-bit kernel' is still valid. Since
the 7043-150 is a 32bit h/w, it won't be able to run AIX 5.4.
