Default RS/6000 video connection

Hi all!

I have a RS/6000 43P Model 140, with O.S Aix.
I need to connect a monitor, but I don't know what kind of cable that I
need. Anybody knows what kind of cable is necessary to connect this
computer and the monitor?

Thank you very much in advance

Maria

This model may or may not have an installed video card. If not then you can
only connect with a serial terminal (or PC serially w/emulator). If it
does then virtually ANY vga class monitor should work. That is, if the
adapter's connection is an HD15. Most, if not all, of the lower end GXT
video cards had this connector.

Hope this helps.

Usually there are two possible graphics connectors. There's the VGA
connector, 15 pins (three rows of 5 pins) in a small d-shell (the size
of a 9-pins serial), and there's the 13W3 connector, thats two large
coax pins, then two rows of 5 small pins and another large coax pin,
that all in a larger d-shell (the size of a 25pins serial)

If you don't have any of these connectors, then you probably only have
serial console possibilities. For that you need a terminal or a terminal
emulator on some other device.

Maria;

Yes you should be able to use the tft with this adapter. I have used LCD's
often on them. However, what I am going to state will definitely NOT make
sense but for some strange reason it was a requirement on most of my RS6K's
to make the graphics adapter work.

I absolutely had to have an OEM IBM keyboard plugged in to the system. I
mean one that was an original IBM RS6K keyboard. I don't know why but NONE
of my PC keyboards worked (actually when any other were plugged in the
console would automatically be redirected to the primary serial port).
ONLY when the IBM keyboard was plugged in would the graphics (lft) become
the console.

Don't know why but if it works....

Good luck.

Bob
