| I would like to be able to send a one line message to all users but for that message to appear on a specific line so that the user's vt200 screen isn't corrupted. Is there any way of using e.g. wall to do this? TIA Stephen |

| You might be able to use wall if you send the appropriate VT200 ESC sequences. Just a thought. -- "I will jump five hundred feet into block of cement!" - Bruno the Magnificent "Stephen" <eastmead@east.com> wrote in message news:brg0qb$evr$1@hercules.btinternet.com... > I would like to be able to send a one line message to all users but for that > message to appear on a specific line so that the user's vt200 screen isn't > corrupted. > > Is there any way of using e.g. wall to do this? > > TIA > > Stephen > > > |

Does ^L work on the terminals? If so, just mention in your message for the user to use ^L to rerender the screen. I'm not sure if you can do this via wall or not. But the vt200 has good save and restore cursor sequences. These are a big help. We have a product called PEEK that lets you see what someone is doing and type on their behalf (remote support, demos, that kind of thing). We embedded in there a thing called "status line message". We stuff the escape sequence in the user's buffer and can do what you want, and can handle different or mixed terminal types. You can get details on PEEK with a message to peek@computron.com or visit www.computron.com Good luck! -- +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Computronics Randy Styka, randy@computron.com | | 4N165 Wood Dale Road Phone: 630/941-7767 | | Addison, Illinois 60101 USA Fax: 630/941-7714 | +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ |
