| smit is a graphic application, and would use the DISPLAY variable. If it can't find a suitable DISPLAY, then the ascii "smitty" command is launched instead, and that would require a proper TERM variable as Michael has pointed out. If that fails, perhaps you don't have the correct terminfo installed, but I'm pretty sure the "ibm3151" always gets installed. |

You haven't given the precise Type-Model (e.g. 3151-51 or -510) and keyboard (e.g. 101-key PS/2 U.S.) being used, but using CTRL+V will scroll down, if that's what you need. Otherwise, check your 3151's setup and post the Type-Model, keyboard type and layout and the settings in use. If you are using a terminal emulator such as Hyperterm try setting the emulation to vt100 instead of ibm3151. |
